Back in March of 2013, I was wrapping up my first Yoga Teacher Training program. My first official class to teach was scheduled for March 23 at the Corpus Christi Festival of the Arts. The theme for my class was "Yoga for Creativity". Surprise, surprise.
Sticking with that theme feels right for this month, as we celebrate 10 full years that I've been teaching yoga. Who knew that the idea of practicing yoga for creativity would ripple into something as magical as "Hand Craft Yoga"?!
Creativity and yoga are analogous to me. There are so many threads to pull on: making something out of nothing, letting go of expectation, showing up to do it just for the sake of doing it, all while finding joy in the process.
One thing I have learned in the last 10 years of teaching: I love a workshop! There is nothing like diving deeper in a relaxed and supportive environment. Sharing this special time with you all holds some of my most cherished memories as a teacher.
So, it feels appropriate to ask you to save the date for an upcoming workshop on Thursday, March 23rd, from 12 to 1:30pm. In honor of 10 years later, let's have some fun with the theme "Yoga for Creativity".
More details we be released in the newsletter next week. For now, all you need to do is RSVP by clicking the button below:
Count me in for 3/23! |
Is that I can count on Linda to show up for class. Which brings me to introduce you to our Student Spotlight for March! I intentionally waited to honor Linda at this time because this month marks our anniversary of practicing yoga together for 10 full years.
I am inspired by Linda’s consistency. She shows up even when something crazy happens (like getting hit by a car!!)! I am honored that she let me feature her in the spotlight for this celebration of a decade of teaching! Read on for her thoughtful insights:
What is your favorite part of yoga?
"My absolute favorite part of being here is Winnie, the poodle. She's the best greeter ever! Also, anyone can practice yoga. It takes consistency and determination. "
How long have you been practicing with Monica?
"I hold the title of Monica’s oldest student. And I’m among the oldest in age at 73 y/o! I'm so proud to have been Monica's first yoga student, ten years ago!"
What is something yoga has helped you overcome?
"This class has helped me slow down some. Yoga is the same as building your home. It takes one small step at a time, until one day it will fall into place. I've learned to have more patience with difficult poses. Some are easier than others."
Do you have any words of advice to a brand new beginner?
"Plan to give yourself a break, as a beginner. A huge bonus is all the people you'll meet in our class."
Thank you for sharing your practice with me, Linda. Cheers to 10 years!
Come on out this Wednesday for an all-levels class at Spring Creek Garden Center. From 5:30 to 6:25 pm, enjoy the hill country oasis and of course, some cuddle time with Winnie the Poodle!
Drop in to the class for just $10. Beer/wine is available for purchase for 30 minutes after class. Let us know you are planning to come by clicking on the picture below(also, I recommend zooming in on Winnie's face):
As always, thank you for letting me share my practice with you. I look forward to seeing you soon.

“Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out.” – Anonymous Hello, friends, It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Hand Craft Yoga will close its studio doors on May 1st. The property our studio sits on is being sold, and it will be official the first week of May. I know, it is a bit shocking. Take a deep breath. I’ve been running around this land since I was 10 years old. When my parents bought the property back in 1997, I had no idea how much it...
